Hooman Sharifi / God Exists…

Hooman Sharifi / God Exists...

20u30

Sharifi’s latest choreography is thoughtful and subtly nuanced. It is an intelligent, physical production that gathers strength as it unfolds.   (Bergens Tidende)

Norwegian-Iranian choreographer Hooman Sharifi’s new group project is an emphatically physical performance fuelled from texts by Friedrich Nietzsche, Hannah Arendt, Roland Barthes and Peter Handke. Their writings seem to have seeped into the four dancers’ bodies. The performance is a cry, elicited by the violence that separates us from the world to which we would so much like to belong.

Hij studeerde er choreografie aan de nationale dans- en balletschool in Oslo, en creëerde sindsdien een hele reeks voorstellingen met zonder uitzondering zeer lange titels: het duet Then such silence since the cries were last heard, de groepschoreografie As if your death was your longest sneeze ever, het trio Hopefully someone will carry out great vengeance on me, de solo We failed to hold this reality in mind, e.a.

Hooman Sharifi (°1973) was born and raised in Iran. He came to Norway at the age of 15. He studied choreography at the National College of Ballet and Dance in Oslo, and has created various performances, which unvariably had very long titles: the duet Then such silence since the cries were last heard, the group choreography As if your death was your longest sneeze ever, the trio Hopefully someone will carry out great vengeance on me, the solo We failed to hold this reality in mind, a.o. All have been shown at Monty.

Hooman Sharifi’s performances are often autobiographically inspired, and greatly influenced by his political commitment. Through his work, he aims to encourage his audiences’ social awareness.
