In maart 2010 barstte in Ijsland de vulkaan Eyjafjallajökull uit en verspreidde een gigantische stofwolk as. In het Europese luchtruim heerste totale chaos, de grootste onderbreking van het luchtverkeer sinds WO II. Massa’s gestrande mensen werden gedwongen de tijd stil te zetten.

Vandaag, nu sommige vluchten minder kosten dan reizen over land, stijgen we op en nog voor ons lichaam het weet, bevinden we ons al in een nieuwe stad, land of cultuur. We vinden manieren om onszelf sneller te verankeren. Een permanente verblijfplaats schrikt ons af, omdat we het ongewoon vinden. Als “show people” in “show business” leren we flexibel te zijn, meer te bereiken, zelfs als een werk minimaal, gedeconstrueerd of een flop is.

VOLCANO put uit Liz Kinoshita’s onderzoek mechanisms of the musicale, en wordt een gevoelige verweving van hedendaagse dans, muziek en présence. De voorstelling focust op het momentum, tempo en ritme in onze levens vandaag de dag, en op de fysicaliteit van de performers, om een beeld te geven van de lifestyle, de tournees, en de toeren die nodig zijn om het allemaal mogelijk te maken, zelfs al worden we tegengehouden door de krachten van de natuur. De voorstelling vertrekt vanuit onze mogelijkheid om te “globetrotten”, en onderzoekt wat dat betekent voor onze tijdsbesteding.

Liz Kinoshita (°Toronto) studeerde in P.A.R.T.S. en was al eerder te gast in Monty waar ze danste voor tg STAN. Ze werkte ook voor ZOO/Thomas Hauert, Eleanor Bauer, Tino Seghal, Matija Ferlin en Claire Croizé.

In March 2010 Eyjafjallajökull, the Icelandic volcano, erupted scattering lots of dangerous ash . Total chaos throughout the European airspace meant the largest disruption of air travel since World War II. Many people were momentarily stranded and unexpectedly halted.

Today air travel often costs less than the ground travel option. Before our body becomes aware, we find ourselves in a new city, country, or culture. Especially people from the ‘show business’ learn to be more flexible, and to accomplish more , despite all difficulties and criticism.

In Volcano Liz Kinoshita focuses on the momentum, tempo and rhythm in our lives in this day age in the physicality of the performers. VOLCANO aims to share the lifestyle led, and the feats required to make everything possible, even when challenged by ever present forces of nature.

VOLCANO will be a delicate intertwining of contemporary dance, music and presence.
