Aanslagen op Europees grondgebied, vluchtelingen in overvolle treinen en grenzen die worden gesloten. We kunnen er niet meer omheen: onze Europese samenleving staat onder druk.

De ontwikkeling waarin ons continent zich momenteel bevindt, vormt het uitgangspunt voor De Man door Europa. Voor deze voorstelling reisde Lucas De Man in 1 maand tijd langsheen 17 steden in 8 Europese landen. Hij sprak zowel historici over de grote 'oude' denkers en makers zoals Jheronimus Bosch, Erasmus, Thomas More en Luther als hedendaagse creators: kunstenaars, denkers en sociaal creatieve personen in de breedste zin van het woord, allen bezig met een zoektocht naar nieuwe manieren van samenleven in deze tijden van verandering.

Hiermee plaatst Lucas de Man de tijd waarin ons continent zich nu bevindt naast de vorige allesbepalende overgangsperiode: die van de middeleeuwen naar de renaissance.  Destijds stond er in slechts 70 jaar tijd een generatie visionairs op die met haar ideeën de basis legde voor het Europa van nu.

Staan er ook nu zulke mensen klaar? Lucas neemt je mee langs de belangrijkste inzichten en strijdpunten van een nieuwe generatie Europeanen.

Attacks on European territory, refugees in overcrowded trains and closed borders. We can no longer ignore it: our European society is under pressure.

Developments our continent is currently undergoing, is the starting point for De Man door Europa. For this performance, Lucas De Man visited 17 cities in eight European countries within the space of a month. He spoke to historians about the great ‘old’ philosophers and creators such as Hieronymus Bosch, Erasmus, Thomas More and Luther as well as contemporary creators: artists, philosophers and socially creative people in the broadest sense of the word, all searching for new ways to live together in these times of change.

In this way Lucas de Man compares the time in which our continent now finds itself with the former all-important transitional period: from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. At that time, in only 70 years a generation of visionaries rose up whose ideas formed the basis for Europe today. Do we now also have people like this? Lucas shares with us the most important visions and contentions of a new generation of Europeans.
