Commitment Phobe is een onderzoek naar twijfel in een samenleving die waarde hecht aan zekerheid. Met een live experiment onderzoekt Ira Brand, samen met performer Tiana Hemlock-Yensen, wat het betekent om niet te weten, niet te kiezen en in beweging te blijven.
Hoe kunnen we twijfel opvatten als kracht, in plaats van machteloosheid? Wat betekent het om géén standpunt in te nemen als politieke keuze? Commitment Phobe is een verkenning van de ruimte tussen ja en nee. Een ode aan twijfel.

Commitment Phobe is an exploration of doubt in a society that values certainty. With a live experiment, Ira Brand together with performer Tiana Hemlock-Yensen researches what it means not to know, not to choose, and keep moving.
How can we conceive of doubt as a strength without making ourselves powerless? What does it mean to not ‘take a position’ as a political choice? Commitment Phobe is an exploration of the space between yes and no. A dedication to doubt.
Over Ira Brand
Ira Brand is een internationale performance-maker, schrijver en curator. Ira Brand maakt interdisciplinaire live performances, variërend van solovoorstellingen en één-op-één stukken tot duetten of participatief werk, waarbij ze persoonlijke uitgangspunten gebruikt om werk te maken over bredere sociale en politieke thema’s.Als kunstenaar en curator toonde Ira Brand werk in o.a. Londen, Hong Kong, Auckland, Lissabon, Kanazawa, en Salvador da Bahia. De afgelopen jaren tourde ze o.a. met de één op één performance Ways to Submit (2019) en de collage-performance like the party has been cancelled (in coproductie met Festival Cement, 2022). Sinds 2022 is Ira verbonden aan Frascati Producties.

Ira Brand is artist, writer, performance-maker and curator. She makes interdisciplinary live performances: solo stage shows, one-on-one pieces, duets or participatory work. She sets off from personal stating points as a means of addressing broader social, political and formal issues. A contemporary, frequently occurring theme in her work is power and how this is felt and exercised – in particular through language, gender and desire.
