Met Le Trait (2012), Le Temps scellé (2011) en Les Sentinelles (2010) blies Nacera Belaza Monty al meermaals omver. De dans van deze verdienstelijke Frans-Algerijnse choreografe is minimalistisch, sensueel en hypergeconcentreerd in lege ruimtes die bol staan van spanning. Dit voorjaar nodigen Moussem en Monty Belaza uit voor een residentie. Ze werkt aan twee nieuwe creaties en toont work in progress.

Creatie 1 | La Traversée | groepswerk

Enkele jaren geleden begon ik in Algerije en Frankrijk met onderzoek naar een mogelijke dialoog tussen rituele bewegingen en mijn eigen choreografische composities. Vandaag wil ik nieuwe onderzoeksvelden openen voor andere performers en de verschillende wegen, de natuur van de antwoorden die worden gegeven naar gelang de culturen en gewoonten, observeren.

De centrale vraag blijft voor mij dezelfde. Hoe link ik een choreografische schriftuur als de mijne met een voorouderlijke dimensie die het lichaam in zich draagt, die in het lichaam begraven ligt?

Creatie 2 | Les Oiseaux | duet

In essentie zijn al mijn choreografieën gebaseerd op het duet. De artistieke inzet is steeds dezelfde. Dezelfde twee danseressen – Nacera en haar zus Dalila – dezelfde lege ruimte en de terugkerende vraag; hoe is het mogelijk om binnen deze minimale structuur met dezelfde beperkingen steeds verder te gaan?

Nacera Belaza made an extraordinary impression at Monty with Le Trait (2012), Le Temps scellé (2011) and Les Sentinelles (2010). The deserving French-Algerian choreographer creates stunning, minimalistic and hyperconcentrated performances in empty spaces, full of tension. Monty and Moussem invited Nacera Belaza for a residency. She will be working on two new creations and show work in progress.

After beginning some years ago in France and Algeria, this research about a possible dialogue between the gesture in the ritual and my own choreographic composition, I wish today to open new fields of exploration to other interprets and observe the different progressions, the nature of the answers that will be given regarding cultures and habits.

The central question that animates this search stays for me, how to link a choreographic writing such as mine to an ancestral dimension in the bodies carried, buried in the bodies?

Throughout my artistic career, my choreographic work was essentially built and defined on the duo within its center the same artistic stake, the same two dancers, the same empty space and the recurrent interrogation: how is it possible to go further while keeping the same constraints?
