P.A.R.T.S. | Afstudeerprojecten

De Brusselse dansschool PARTS wijzigde in 2013 het programma van de Training cyclus. De eerste lichting is een groep van 35 studenten uit 23 landen. Ze tonen hun afstudeercreaties aan het publiek in België en de buurlanden.

Voor het afstudeerwerk nodigde PARTS vijf choreografen uit om met een kleine groep studenten een nieuwe creatie te maken:

Fabrice Mazliah danste bij William Forsythe en is mede-oprichter van het choreografencollectief MaMaZa;
Eszter Salamon is een Hongaarse choreografe die veel rond verstilling en traagheid werkt;
Daniel Linehan, zelf oud-student van PARTS, is internationaal actief en artist-in-residence in deSingel;
Marc Vanrunxt is een Vlaamse choreograaf die al ruim 30 jaar actief is in de Vlaamse danswereld, en een regelmatige gast in Monty;
Vera Mantero woont en werkt in Portugal aan een eigenzinnig oeuvre tussen dans, muziek en performance.

‘Wars & Dances (a ritual of ‘lore’)’ | choreography Eszter Salamon

'Lore' is " a cultural commonplace that is available to all but belongs to no one. Against the blackmail of identity and its assembly" (Omar Berrada) Salamon reflects with 12 dancers on history and identity. Which (dance) history do we know, how and what do we learn about this history and how can we transform this into a more eman-cipatory experience?

Salamon reflecteert met 12 dansers op geschiedschrijving en identiteit. Welke (dans)geschiedenis kennen wij, wat en hoe leren wij over deze geschiedenis en op welke manier kunnen we dit transformeren tot een meer emanciperende ervaring? 

Eszter Salamon's  (Hungary) work navigates between medias such as voice, sound, text and movement. Her practice of ‘alternative narration’ uses documentary and fiction.

9 juni: 

'six potentialities' | choreography Fabrice Mazliah 

The knowledge of a dancer does not only consist of facts and measures. It is in the first place physical. Mazliah researches how this implicit knowledge can be shared with an audience and how this will produce something new. The piece is a part of a collection of works created around the piece “In Act and Thought”, created in June 2015 for and with The Forsythe Company.

De kennis van een danser bestaat niet enkel uit feiten en maten. Ze is vooral lichamelijk. Mazliah onderzoekt hoe die impliciete kennis kan worden gedeeld met een publiek en hoe door dit te doen iets nieuws ontstaat. Samen met zes dansers bouwt hij verder op het choreografisch proces van het stuk In Act and Thought van de Forsythe Company (2015).

Fabrice Mazliah (Switzerland) was for many years member of William Forsythe’s Ballett Frankfurt and The Forsythe Company. He is a co-founder of the choreographer’s collective MaMaZa.

‘End World Mosaic' | choreography Daniel Linehan 

Inspired by Markus Gabriel’s book ‘Why the World Does Not Exist’, Daniel Linehan starts from the viewpoint that there is not one but many worlds. The non-existence of one single all-encompassing world is not cause for nihilism, but rather a source of freedom. Liberated from the idea of unity, Linehan creates a fascinating and attractive disorder.

Geïnspireerd door het boek ‘Why the World Does Not Exist’ van Markus Gabriel vertrekt Linehan vanuit het standpunt dat er niet één maar meerdere werelden bestaan. Dit niet-bestaan van één allesomvattende wereld ervaart hij niet als nihilistisch, maar als bevrijdend. Verlost van het idee van eenheid creëert Linehan met zes studenten een fascinerende, aantrekkelijke wanorde.

Daniel Linehan (United States), himself a graduate of PARTS, always looks for the border between dance and not-dance. This leads to unexpected links, contradictions and parallels between movements, texts, images, songs and rhythms.

10 juni:

'Golden living dreams of visions (mystic crystal revelation and the mind’s true liberation)' | choreography Marc Vanrunxt 

Vanrunxt and his five dancers will search to their commonalities and differences, starting from contemporary classical music and psychedelic rock music from the sixties and the seventies.

Vanrunxt gaat samen met vijf dansers op zoek naar wat hen verbindt en hoe ze verschillen. Hij vertrekt vanuit klassieke hedendaagse muziek en psychedelische rockmuziek van de jaren 60 en 70.

Marc Vanrunxt (Belgium) has been active in the Flemish dance field for more than 30 years. In his large body of work he investigates the borders of dance as medium and of choreography as a language.

Together with 6 dancers, Mantero dives into dance and performance and stage and time and space and our lives and our ideas and our emotions and our needs and our senses and our desires…

Vera Mantero (Portugal) sees choreography and performance as a way to get a grip on reality. For more than 30 years she has been building a particular oeuvre that bridges dance, music and theatre.
